Teeth Whitening

Professional Teeth Whitening At Maxident Clinic!

Tooth whitening treatment can totally rejuvenate the face, making you appear younger and helping you to achieve the confidence that you desire. A bright smile can help you to look and feel great. Tooth whitening is a simpler, cheaper, non-invasive alternative to cosmetic surgery and stunning results can be achieved in a very short space of time.

Just like how we all have different hair and skin colour, people also have different tooth colour. Some teeth are more yellow than others, while others yellow with aging. Your natural tooth colour can also be affected by many factors.

Teeth Whitening-before-after

Surface stains and internal discoloration can be caused by:

  • The natural aging process.
  • Using tobacco (smoked or chewed), drinking coffee, tea, colas or red wine, and eating pigmented foods such as cherries and blueberries.
  • Accumulation of plaque and tartar deposits.
  • Ingesting too much fluoride (more than 2 parts fluoride per million parts water) when teeth are forming, which gives teeth a “mottled” look.
  • Treatment with the antibiotic tetracycline during childhood.
  • Trauma to the teeth that may cause a brown, gray or black colour.

A variety of options are available today for you to brighten your smile, but dentist-supervised custom trays teeth whitening treatment remain the safest and most effective way to a brighter whiter smile. Your dentist will conduct an initial consultation and a thorough assessment. The options appropriate to your case will then be thoroughly discussed with you to provide a customised Tooth Whitening procedure.

Custom Trays Teeth Whitening

Your dentist will take impressions of your teeth which are then used to produce upper/lower trays made of a soft vinyl rubber. The trays are tailored to fit the exact contours of your teeth and are specially moulded to fit into your mouth like a gum¬shield. This allows the teeth whitening gel to closely contact your enamel to produce an all over, consistent, whiter smile. Ready made trays from other home teeth whitening products simply don’t allow the close contact that is required to create such even results.

After approximately one week your dentist will provide you with syringes of solution for home use, as well as your custom made trays, and will be able to answer any questions you have about home teeth whitening. You will be advised on the best period of time to wear the trays to achieve the desired results.

Are the results of the whitening permanent?

It is usual for the shade improvement to last several years. This time period can be extended by a regular maintenance program with occasional top up sessions of tray based tooth whitening used in combination with regular visits to your dental hygienist. A program for visiting the hygienist is individually designed for you by your dentist as part of your overall dental health program.

How long does tooth whitening last?

Tooth whitening is generally maintained by regular hygeine visits. It is also dependant on life style. Smoking and strongly coloured food and drinks have a diminishing effect i.e coffee, red vine, curry, etc. Professionally whitened teeth can generraly be expected to last a number of years.

Are there any side effects?

Some patients may experience sensitivity during the treatment. On rare occasions, patients may experience minor tingling sensations immediately after the procedure however, these subside shortly after use.

How long does each treatment last?

The gel is active for 4 hours once opened therefore some patients choose to wear the trays whilst sleeping. It is just as effective to wear the trays for just 60-90 minutes, so many patients wear their trays during the day for this time period.

Is the treatment painful?

Some users may experience sensitive teeth after use. The degree of sensitivity is dependent on each individual. Any discomfort is usually temporary and should subside soon after use.

After a few tooth whitening treatments patients often become more accustomed to the process with a reduction in tooth sensitivity.

How soon will I see results?

This depends on the nature and degree of the initial stains. Everyone is different and just as our hair and skin colour vary, so do our teeth. Some people notice a difference after just one treatment whilst others can take a little longer.

We generally recommend an initial course of 1-2 weeks.

How white will my teeth be at the end of the treatment?

This is dependent on the individual person and the degree of staining pre-whitening.

Tray based tooth whitening is a predictable way to lighten your teeth to the shade that you are happy with in a safe and proven way.

Will it be obvious that I've had my teeth whitened?

This depends on how extreme the changes are and how discoloured your teeth were prior to treatment. People who know you very well may notice the difference to your smile.

Most will notice how good you look but often they will find it difficult to work out why. Those who you meet for the first time will simply think what a great smile you have!

Is this process harmful to my teeth?

No! The effect on the teeth is no different than the effect from commonly ingested foods or regular dental procedures.

Can I whiten my teeth while I'm pregnant?

We do not recommend the use of this product whilst pregnant.
